Governor Otter and First Lady Lori Otter joined hundreds of Idahoans and military members at the public unveiling of the Idaho Fallen Soldier Memorial on September 11, 2010. The memorial – a tribute to Idaho’s service members who have died since September 11, 2001, while defending our freedom – stands in front of the old Ada County Courthouse across from the State Capitol building. The Governor and First Lady presented the names of the fallen engraved in black granite panels on the memorial and visited with families of the fallen heroes at the ceremony. |

| When they arrive in Iraq in late November, the missions of the 116th CBCT will include convoy security, military installation security and providing logistical support for military and civilian-agency delegations traveling to Iraq. About 75% of those deploying with the 116th CBCT are traditional guardsmen, meaning they hold careers as civilians from nearly every walk of life. The 116th CBCT consists of some 2,700 Citizen Soldiers with a breakdown as follows: About 1,500 Idaho Citizen Soldiers About 600 Oregon Citizen Soldiers About 600 Montana Citizen Soldiers |

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the STAR Science Center in Rathdrum -- September 30, 2010 |

Governor Otter joined hundreds of excited northern Idaho residents for the groundbreaking of the STAR Science Center in Rathdrum. The nonprofit North Idaho Discovery Center (NIDA) plans to build the 20,000 square foot Science, Technology, and Research (STAR) facility on land owned by Drs. Paul and Lorna Finman. The Finmans founded NIDA, which promotes science and technology education. Their donation, along with other private and corporate donations, will pay for the science center. The STAR Center will be open to the public and offer numerous educational programs, including exhibits and advanced research laboratories in energy, robotics, microbiology, and agriculture. |
