ELMORE COUNTY TO RECEIVE WEST NILE ASSISTANCE BOISE – Governor Jim Risch signed the fifth state disaster assistance proclamation for West Nile Virus today when he granted Elmore County’s petition. Ada, Canyon, Owyhee and Bingham counties have already been approved. As of Wednesday, Elmore County had the third highest rate in the state of individuals infected with the West Nile Virus at 42. Ada County reported 133 cases and Canyon County had 131 to lead the state. “State assistance is being granted to Elmore County today with the signing of this disaster declaration. We stand ready to help them as they finalize their plans to eradicate a large portion of the mosquito populations that carry the West Nile Virus. By working together we can provide greater protection to the citizens of Elmore County from this disease,” said Risch. Elmore County officials are working with experts from a variety of state agencies to come up with an effective plan to combat mosquitoes. The cost of the implementation the plan is also an important component, since the state normally pays 75 percent of the cost for disaster assistance. Once the county and the state agree to the plan, Governor Risch will sign an Implementation Memorandum that will allow the county to proceed. ### |
