GOVERNOR MAKES DEQ BOARD APPOINTMENTS

BOISE – Governor Jim Risch today announced the reappointment of Don Chisholm of Burley to the Board of the Department of Environmental Quality. Chisholm was first appointed to the DEQ Board in 2000 and reappointed in 2002. He is a practicing lawyer at his own firm, Chisholm Law Office.

Governor Risch also announced the appointment of Kermit Kiebert of Hope, located in Bonner County, to the DEQ Board. He replaces Marguerite McLaughlin who is retiring. Kiebert, a former state senator from northern Idaho, served from 1975 through 1987 with six of those years as the Minority Leader. He also served as the Director of the Idaho Transportation Department from 1987 to 1993. Kiebert currently owns and operates several businesses in Bonner County.

“I have great confidence in the two people I have selected for the board. Don will continue his good work on the board and Kermit will join a group of people who take their work safeguarding our state’s environment seriously,” said Risch. “There are special challenges facing the board, such as the air quality program, and I am certain that as they work with our excellent staff they will find common sense solutions to our needs.”

Governor Risch hailed the service of Marguerite McLaughlin who was appointed to the board in July of 2000 and reappointed in 2002. McLaughlin is from Orofino and served as a State Senator from 1983 through 2000 and as a State Representative from 1979 through 1982.

“Marguerite epitomizes public service in Idaho. As an elected official and then serving on this board, she had the best interest of Idahoans first and foremost in mind. I thank her for her many years of dedicated service.” Risch said.

Appointees serve 4-year terms on the Board of Environmental Quality.
