GOVERNOR’S AWARDS IN
THE BOISE - Governor James E. Risch today announced the recipients of the 2006 Governor’s Awards in the Arts. The biennial awards were established in 1970 by the Idaho Commission on the Arts to elevate recognition and awareness of Idaho arts and artists. Idaho was among the first in the nation to establish such a program. A panel of out-of-state jurors reviewed the nominations and offered its recommendations to the commissioners, who then forwarded their selections to the Governor for his decision. In announcing the awards Governor Risch said, “We cherish the art and artists of Idaho because they personify the creative spirit of our state. This year’s recipients are outstanding in their respective fields and reflect the quality talent and deep commitment to the arts that we find throughout this great state.” The 2006 award recipients include:
Governor Risch and First Lady Vicki Risch will present the silver medallions, designed by Idaho artist Elizabeth Wolf, to the recipients at a ceremony on October 7. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Egyptian Theatre located at 700 W. Main Street in Boise. Tickets may be purchased at the Egyptian Theatre box office for $12.
