SALMON IS AUGUST CAPITAL FOR A DAY
GOVERNOR OTTER CHOOSES LEMHI COUNTY SEAT FOR MONTHLY OUTREACH

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced today that Salmon, the seat of government for Lemhi County, will be Idaho’s state “Capital for a Day” on Monday, August 27th.

The first-come, first-served open opportunity for residents to meet with the Governor and First Lady Lori Otter, selected members of the Governor’s Cabinet and other senior state officials is scheduled from 1:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Salmon Elks Lodge, 901 Lumbard Street, in Salmon. At noon, state and local leaders will attend a no-host luncheon at the same location.

Prior to the luncheon, the Governor and First Lady will participate in a 10 a.m. news conference at Salmon’s Steele Memorial Hospital on reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. At 11 a.m. Governor Otter will tour the Salmon Business and Innovation Center and the Sacajawea Interpretive, Cultural and Educational Center, while the First Lady visits children at the Salmon Public Library.

State agency officials joining the Governor and First Lady at Capital for a Day will include Department of Environmental Quality Director Toni Hardesty; Department of Parks and Recreation Director Bob Meinen; Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Gary Power; Jim Lukens, Salmon Region supervisor for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game; Tom Cole, District 6 engineer for the Idaho Transportation Department; Idaho Department of Administration Director Mike Gwartney; Don Dietrich, administrator of community, economic and rural development for the Idaho Department of Commerce; and Colonel William Shawver, Idaho National Guard chief of staff.

“Lemhi County is at the heart of some of the most important issues defining the challenges of growth and change facing Idaho,” Governor Otter said. “From roadless lands and wolves to timber, mining, transportation, tourism and economic development, I’m sure the folks in Salmon will have a lot to say. Everyone on my team will be ready to listen.
