OTTER APPOINTS MCKAGUE (BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced the appointment on Thursday of Republican Representative Shirley McKague of Meridian to the District 20 Idaho Senate seat being vacated by Republican Senator Gerry Sweet of Meridian. Sweet has resigned to become district director for new Congressman Bill Sali. McKague was elected to her sixth two-year term in the House in November. Her name was first among three submitted to Governor Otter by the Republican legislative committee in District 20 to succeed Sweet. McKague is a Nampa High School graduate, retired legal secretary and former service station owner. She was vice chairman of the House Commerce and Human Resources Committee, and also served on the House Revenue and Taxation, and Transportation and Defense committees. She and her husband, Paul, have six children. “Representative McKague has been a stalwart, reliable and hard-working member of the House. Senator McKague will bring those same qualities to representing her constituents in the Idaho Senate,” Otter said. “She is a public servant in the best tradition of a citizen legislator, and I’m proud to make this appointment.” The Republican legislative committee for District 20 has 15 days to submit up to three names to Governor Otter to fill McKague’s seat in the House. Governor Otter then will have up to 15 days to choose her successor. ### |
