OTTER NAMES HANSEN TO 4TH DISTRICT BENCH
GOVERNOR APPOINTS ADA COUNTY MAGISTRATE TO SUCCEED JOEL HORTON

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter today appointed Ada County Magistrate Timothy Hansen to fill the 4th District judgeship left vacant by the September 2007 appointment of Joel Horton to the Idaho Supreme Court.

Hansen, 56, is a Pocatello native who received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from the University of Idaho. The U.S. Navy veteran has been an Ada County magistrate since 1992. He previously was a deputy Ada County public defender and was in private law practice in Boise.

Hansen and his wife, Mary, live in Boise.

“Judge Hansen is a thoughtful and fair jurist who takes the concerns of all parties into consideration in presiding over cases before him. His background is particularly impressive in the areas of family law and domestic violence,” Governor Otter said. “He is a strong advocate for the rule of law, and I’m confident the people of the 4th Judicial District will be well-served by his promotion.”
