BRACKETT NAMED TO SUCCEED GANNON IN IDAHO SENATE (BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter named state Representative Bert Brackett of Rogerson to complete the District 23 Idaho Senate term of state Senator Tom Gannon of Buhl, who died June 24. Brackett was the first choice among three nominees submitted by the District 23 Republican Legislative Committee. The committee also selected him to succeed Gannon as the Republican nominee for the District 23 Senate seat on the November general election ballot. The second-term member of the Idaho House of Representatives is a rancher who has been serving on the House Appropriations and Resources and Conservation committees. Gannon was chairman of the Senate Agricultural Affairs Committee and served on the Senate Education Committee. Brackett, 63, a Twin Falls native, is a Hagerman High School graduate with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Idaho. He served in the Idaho National Guard’s 116th Armored Cavalry and is a past president of the Idaho Cattle Association. “Bert was exercising his civic virtue as an actively involved member of his industry and his community in Twin Falls and Owyhee counties long before he ran for the Legislature,” Governor Otter said. “He will make a fine addition to the Idaho Senate, and I look forward to working closely with him in 2009 and beyond.”
