EMMETT TO HOST JULY ‘CAPITAL FOR A DAY’ (BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced today that the Gem County seat of Emmett will be Idaho’s “Capital for a Day” on Wednesday, July 30th – the opening day of the Gem County Fair and Rodeo. The first-come, first-served open opportunity to meet with the Governor, selected members of the Governor’s Cabinet and other senior state officials is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kenneth Carberry Intermediate School, 1950 E. 12th Street, in Emmett. The Governor also will join Mayor Bill Butticci and other state and local leaders for a no-host luncheon at Cold Mountain Creek Restaurant, 1825 Highway 16 in Emmett. State officials joining the Governor at Capital for a Day will include Department of Commerce Director Don Dietrich; Department of Labor Director Roger Madsen; Transportation Department Director Pam Lowe; Transportation Board member Monte McClure; Department of Insurance Director Bill Deal; Fish and Game Commissioner Bob Barowsky; Scott Reinecker, regional supervisor for the Department of Fish and Game; Brian Oakey, deputy director of the state Department of Agriculture; Kim Toryanski, administrator of the Commission on Aging; Steve Lester, regional water rights coordinator for the Department of Water Resources; Dr. Leslie Tengelsen, deputy state epidemiologist from the Department of Health and Welfare; Kurt Houston, regional operations chief for the Department of Lands; Becky Schroeder, deputy director for administration at the Idaho Lottery; and Dan John, manager of tax policy for the state Tax Commission; “Emmett is a pretty quick drive from Boise, but it has the rural, small-town character of a community hours away from the city. Its location and history put Emmett in the unique position of facing the whole gamut of rural, suburban and even urban issues,” Governor Otter said. “Of course, transportation is a key concern. But I expect everything from West Nile and water to economic development and education will be on folks’ minds. We’ll be ready.”
