GOVERNOR’S CUP SCHOLARSHIP

RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter today announced the 11 recipients of this year’s Governor’s Cup Scholarships to Idaho colleges and universities.

The recipients were chosen from among more than 500 applicants by the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship Fund Inc.’s 12-member board of directors. Selections were based on each applicant’s commitment to public service, academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. The number of scholarships awarded is based on the availability of funds.

The award is $3,000 per year, renewable for up to four (4) years, or three (3) years for professional-technical programs. Here are this year’s recipients, along with their high school and the school they plan to attend in the fall:

Kathleen Momont, Caldwell High School, University of Idaho.

Aaron Kirkham, Century High School (Pocatello), Idaho State University.

Amanda Wilkes, Liberty Charter School (Nampa), Northwest Nazarene University.

Courtney Gwinn, Highland High School (Pocatello), Boise State University.

Valerie Pantone, Shoshone High School, University of Idaho.

Ciciley Fox, Challis High School, College of Idaho.

Javier Manzanares, Caldwell High School, Idaho State University.

James Higley, Shelley High School, University of Idaho.

David McElroy, Timberline High School (Boise), University of Idaho.

Kabina Montgomery, Jerome High School, professional-technical, Idaho State University.

Amy Kuther, Nez Perce High School, professional-technical, Lewis-Clark State College.

“I’m very pleased to be part of a program that provides opportunities for Idaho young people to make a better life for themselves and their communities,” Governor Otter said. “Education is the key to both those goals, and the Governor’s Cup Scholarship program is a way to help prepare the next generation of Idaho leaders for an even brighter future.”

A reception honoring the recipients is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, June 6, in the 2nd Floor Courtroom at the Borah Building, 8th and Bannock streets in Boise.
