GOVERNOR, FIRST LADY TO LIGHT CAPITOL CHRISTMAS TREE AND ENCOURAGE GIVING

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and First Lady Lori Otter invite all Idahoans to join them for a celebration of the holiday season on Monday, November 30th, at the ceremonial lighting of Idaho’s Capitol Christmas Tree, beginning at 5:30 at the corner of Bannock Street and Capitol Blvd.

“We are looking forward to celebrating the arrival of the holidays with song, good cheer, and charitable giving for those in need,” Governor Otter said. “This will be a fun evening for family and friends to come together for fellowship and goodwill.”

The Governor and First Lady are encouraging Idahoans to bring canned food to the tree lighting ceremony to benefit the Idaho Food Bank. All children bringing a can of food will receive a complimentary book courtesy of Scholastic Books. “This will give kids an opportunity to understand that while we celebrate time with our loved ones, we also can also use these occasions to pitch in and help others who may be struggling,” First Lady Lori Otter said.

107.1 K-Hits radio personalities Tracy and Margo will be masters of ceremonies for the evening, which will be held at the corner of Capitol Boulevard and Bannock Street in downtown Boise. The 25th Army Band will begin entertaining with seasonal music at 5:30p.m., and the program itself starts at 6 p.m. with songs from the fourth- and fifth- grade Honor Choir at Cecil D. Andrus Elementary School in Meridian

Governor Otter and the First Lady, as well as Idaho’s Constitutional officers will begin the tree lighting countdown, and their oldest granddaughter, Ruby, will flip the switch. Immediately after the ceremony, refreshments will be provided including coffee from Treasure Valley Moxie Java stores, and cookies and hot cider courtesy of Fred Meyers, as well as complimentary books from Scholastic Books, and First Lady Lori Otter’s book “Ida Visits the Capitol.”
