GOVERNOR UNDERGOES SHOULDER SURGERY (BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter underwent required rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder at Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital in Boise today. The operation was necessary to repair an injury that occurred recently while the Governor was clearing brush on his ranch near Star. His orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Michael J. Curtin of Intermountain Orthopaedics in Boise, said Governor Otter likely will need eight to 10 weeks of rehabilitation and physical therapy after today’s operation. He will be working at home for a few days, but the procedure will have no impact on his ability to perform any of his duties as Governor. A light general anesthesia, along with a local “block” on his left shoulder, was used for the arthroscopic surgery. Lieutenant Governor Brad Little was briefed and available throughout the procedure. Two audio clips of Governor Otter talking about today’s operation are available at http://gov.idaho.gov/press/conference.html. ### EDITORS NOTE: The Governor will not be available to talk with members of the media Thursday or Friday. Beginning Friday, please contact Jon Hanian at (208) 334-2100 to arrange interview opportunities with the First Lady.
