WHEREAS, Gudrun “Gudi” Laritz arrived in the United States of America in 1963. She became a naturalized citizen on October 23, 1969. She has taken her adopted country to heart, and her patriotism and loyalty to this country is unsurpassed; and WHEREAS, after 30 years, Gudi Laritz is retiring from Washington Group International (formerly Morrison Knudsen Corporation) in December 2006. During her employment she has shown flexibility and competence by successfully learning various posts within the company. She has built rapport with both corporate employees and business unit/field employees. She has taken personal time to visit projects in both Oregon and Alabama. She has an incredible ability to “never know a stranger” and has such a flawless reputation amongst her peers in other locations that they often call her for assistance above and beyond her normal capacity, knowing that if she doesn’t know the answer, she will work to find out the right answer as quickly as possible; and WHEREAS, Gudi is a regular volunteer at company functions and has been the Secretary/Treasurer for the company’s volunteer group for approximately 15 years. Gudi has volunteered time, money, and materials to volunteer efforts such as: the Channel 4 Telethon, Juvenile Diabetes Research, the United Way, Hope House, the Idaho Humane Society, Rake Up Boise, Paint the Town, the Meridian School craft fair and many other events over the years; and WHEREAS, Gudi’s most significant contribution while at Washington Group International has been her positive influence upon the lives of her co-workers; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JAMES E. RISCH, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim December 29, 2006, to be GUDI LARITZ DAY in Idaho.
