WHEREAS, the first “National Teen
Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week” will be celebrated February 6th –
10th, 2006; and
WHEREAS, the State of Idaho, calls
upon the government, private organizations and public officials to promote
activities in their respective communities that raise awareness of the high
incidence of teen dating violence as well as prevention strategies; and
WHEREAS, throughout Idaho, there
exists a dedicated and concerted movement by domestic violence service providers
and advocacy organizations, the legal community, the medical community, youth
organizations, civil and criminal justice professionals, community members,
government agents and legislators, who consistently work toward a violence free
society and provide assistance to victims of dating violence; and
WHEREAS, the State of Idaho,
through legislation and efforts statewide, recognizes dating violence as a
problem; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting to set
aside a special time to bring this issue to the attention of all Idahoans so
they can become better informed and involved in programs to eliminate this
epidemic from our society; and
WHEREAS, the Idaho Partners
Against Domestic Violence, St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center, the Idaho
Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, Idaho Legal Aid Services, and
the Idaho State Bar Idaho Volunteer Lawyer Program, are working with victim
service programs, criminal justice officials and concerned citizens throughout
Idaho and across the country to observe Idaho Teen Dating Violence Awareness and
Prevention Week;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIRK
KEMPTHORNE, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the week of
February 6th through 10th, 2006, to be
IDAHO TEEN DATING VIOLENCE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION WEEK
in Idaho.
IN
WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great
Seal of the State of Idaho at the Capitol in Boise on this twelfth day of
January in the year of our Lord two-thousand and six and of the Independence of
the United States of America the two hundred thirtieth and of the Statehood of
