        WHEREAS, The United States Army was established by the First Continental Congress on the 14th day of June, 1775; and

        WHEREAS, The United States Army exists to defend the freedom of our citizens and our nation; and

        WHEREAS, Many citizens of Idaho have served their nation and given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms, as members of the United States Army; and

        WHEREAS, It is proper to recognize the Unites States Army annually on its birthday, and to thank those who have served and those who are presently serving.

        NOW THEREFORE, I, GOVERNOR JAMES E. RISCH, do hereby designate June 14th as the United States Army’s 231st birthday and declare the period from June 11th through June 18th, 2006 as:

UNITED STATES ARMY WEEK

I encourage all citizens to join with me in this salute as we express our gratitude to those who have served and those who are now serving to protect our nation and its freedoms.
