WHEREAS, in its quest to end the
devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for over 60 years; the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society is the one thing people with MS can count on; and
WHEREAS, as the most common disabling
neurological disease of young adults in the United States and particularly in
the Rocky Mountains, Multiple Sclerosis affects 450,000 people nationwide; and
WHEREAS, in Idaho alone over 2,000 people
suffer the effects of MS; and
WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society will have provided over $500 million for research and fellowship grants
during the past six decades, as well as a wide range of client services in the
areas of health, knowledge, and independence through its fifty-state network of
chapters and its home office; and
WHEREAS, while research advances have brought us
closer to finding the cure, prevention, and cause for Multiple Sclerosis, much
remains to be done and services must continue to be provided to those who live
with the disease;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIRK KEMPTHORNE, Governor
of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the week of March 13 through 17, 2006,
to be
MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AWARENESS WEEK
in Idaho.
IN
WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great
Seal of the State of Idaho at the Capitol in Boise on this twenty-second day of
February in the year of our Lord two thousand and six and of the Independence of
the United States of America the two hundred thirtieth and of the Statehood of
Idaho the one hundred sixteenth.
