WHEREAS, the current and projected healthcare workforce shortage is creating a healthcare crisis across the nation; and WHEREAS, healthcare employment growth between 2000-2010 is projected to be 29% while all other industry segments are projected to have a combined employment growth of 14%; and WHEREAS, 4.6 million new workers, including 1 million nurses, will be needed over the next 10 years; and WHEREAS, one in ten non-agriculture workers are employed in healthcare; and WHEREAS, the explosion of technology in healthcare and an unprecedented aging population contribute to the national healthcare workforce shortage; and WHEREAS, today’s students have opportunities to begin preparation for a healthcare career as early as high school; and WHEREAS, students’ academic achievements can be strengthened through health science applications; and WHEREAS, students expand their career knowledge leading to wise career decision-making, through support of the partnerships formed between healthcare stakeholders and educators; and WHEREAS, strengthening partnerships between educators and healthcare professionals is essential to ensuring that students are prepared to meet current and projected staffing needs; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JAMES E. RISCH, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim November 13-17, 2006 to be HEALTHCARE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EDUCATION in Idaho.
