WHEREAS, Idaho's Domestic Violence Act (Act) is entering its third decade; and WHEREAS, the goals of the State of Idaho, since the passage of the Act, have been to provide recognition of the devastation caused by domestic violence and enforce the laws that relate to domestic violence; and WHEREAS, throughout Idaho, there exists a dedicated and concerted movement by service providers, civil and criminal justice professionals, treatment programs, community members, government agents and legislators, who consistently work toward a violence free society and provide assistance to victims; and WHEREAS, the State of Idaho, through legislation and efforts statewide, recognizes that domestic violence permeates all ethnic, racial, age, gender and socioeconomic populations, and that victims suffer physically and mentally; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to set aside a special time to bring this issue to the attention of all Idahoans so they can become better informed and involved in programs to eliminate this epidemic from our society; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence and the Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance are working with victim service programs, criminal justice officials and concerned citizens throughout Idaho and across the country to observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JAMES E. RISCH, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2006, to be D O M E S T I C V I O L E N C E A W A R E N E S S M O N T H in Idaho.
