WHEREAS, the control of infectious diseases is of vital concern to all Idaho citizens; and WHEREAS, modern infection control methods help protect Idaho citizens from the spread of healthcare acquired infectious diseases; and WHEREAS, the surveillance of medical facilities and the control of disease transmission by Idaho Infection Control Professionals provide safety measures for patients, first responders, medical workers, healthcare facility visitors, and the general public from the threat of infectious diseases; and WHEREAS, October 16-22, 2006, has been designated as International Infection Prevention Week throughout the world with the chosen theme of “Infection Prevention It’s In Your Hands”; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JAMES E. RISCH, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim October 16th through 22nd, 2006, to be INFECTION PREVENTION WEEK in Idaho.
