        WHEREAS, July 27th, 2006, President Bush signed H.R. 9, the Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks and Coretta Scott King Voting Rights Act Reauthorization and Amendments Act of 2006 into law; and

        WHEREAS, since its inception, nearly a century ago, the NAACP has continued to fight for voting rights, economic equality and educational opportunities and has worked to advance the social, political and economic conditions of ethnic people of color; and

        WHEREAS, our nation has benefited from the NAACP’s unwavering dedication to the objective of securing full citizenship rights, justice in all courts, and equality of opportunity for all; and

        WHEREAS, beginning in 1919, Idaho members of the NAACP have upheld the principles of the NAACP and have remained steadfast in their efforts to end discrimination and to ensure equal opportunity for all the citizens of our State; and

        WHEREAS, all citizens of Idaho have benefited from the commitment to these principles on the part of the members of the Treasure Valley Branch of the NAACP;

        NOW, THEREFORE, I JAMES E. RISCH, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim October 21st, 2006, to be

TREASURE VALLEY BRANCH OF THE NAACP DAY

in Idaho.
