WHEREAS, Idaho’s salmon and steelhead resources continue to be a part of our state’s history, culture, economy and natural resources; and WHEREAS, survival of Idaho’s salmon and steelhead depends on public awareness and appreciation for the benefits they bring to Idaho; and WHEREAS, a partnership of citizens, agencies, organizations and private industries have joined annually since 1997 in the planning the Idaho Salmon and Steelhead Days event at the Boise MK Nature Center to educate children and the public about our anadromous fish resources; and WHEREAS, more than 2,200 fifth grade students from school districts throughout Boise and southwest Idaho will participate in this year’s Tenth Anniversary Idaho Salmon and Steelhead Days, joining teacher, scientists, Native Americans, and the public in gaining an understanding and appreciation of the biological, cultural, historical, and economic importance of Idaho’s salmon and steelhead resources; and NOW THEREFORE, I, JAMES E. RISCH, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim September 6th through the 8th, 2006, to be IDAHO SALMON AND STEELHEAD DAYS and encourage all Idahoans to join and gain an understanding of the role that
our salmon and steelhead resources have played in the history, culture, economy
and natural resources of our state.
