WHEREAS, the Idaho Academy of Science promotes the advancement and understanding of science in Idaho, encourages and stimulates Idaho citizens to study and conduct scientific research, and supports interdisciplinary cooperation in the various fields of science, engineering and technology within the State of Idaho; and WHEREAS, members and friends of the Idaho Academy of Science contribute to the economic development of the State through research and other activities; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Academy of Science publishes reports of scientific investigations and works for the benefit of scientific interests within the state; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Academy of Science encourages and supports the teaching and study of science and engineering at Idaho’s public and private colleges and universities; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Academy of Science cultivates the aptitudes and abilities of young Idahoans to prepare for careers in the sciences, engineering and technology, and to do so at Idaho institutions; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Academy of Science has for 49 years sponsored annual scientific and technical symposia at which Idaho’s science and engineering communities meet to report the results of scientific investigations conducted in Idaho and/or by Idaho scientists, engineers, educators and students; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C. L. "Butch" Otter, Governor of the State of Idaho, recognizing the importance of science, engineering and technology to the citizens of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the days of April 19 through 21, 2007, to be I D A H O A C A D E M Y O F S C I E N C E D A Y S Further, I take this opportunity to welcome scientists, engineers, educators and students to this Symposium and to the forty-ninth Annual Meeting of the Idaho Academy of Science in Idaho Falls. I congratulate Dr. Richard D. Boardman, President of the Idaho Academy of Science, and others at the Idaho National Laboratory and elsewhere in eastern Idaho for organizing this event. The theme of “Energy for the Future: Human & Ecological Considerations” highlights the important role of Idahoans in developing both current and future energy technologies while preserving Idaho’s natural environment.
