WHEREAS, Alfredo Miguel Afif was born in Brownsville, Texas on April 27, 1949; and WHEREAS, he is the son of Catholic Lebanese immigrants who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity and entrepreneurial spirit; and WHEREAS, throughout his life, he has devoted himself to the cause of economic principles that have benefited many both here in the U.S. and internationally; WHEREAS, he has provided visionary leadership in areas such as the aviation industry, automotive industry, rail industry, oil industry, real estate development, plastics industry, outdoor marketing and advertising and most importantly, resort development; and WHEREAS, his social and humanitarian contributions include founding the Mexican-Lebanese Chamber of Commerce, Board member of the highly prestigious Hospital General de Mexico, Board member of Funsalud, a charitable organization that provides assistance to the underprivileged farmers of Mexico; and WHEREAS, in the U.S., Alfredo is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of PATRIA, a U.S. non profit foundation dedicated to working on issues related to immigration across the U.S./Mexico boarder, by creating jobs and incentives in Mexico, that will afford the opportunity for Mexicans to remain in their homeland, or return to their homeland from the U.S.; and WHEREAS, throughout all of these endeavors Alfredo is directly responsible for the creation of thousands of jobs, changing, for the better, thousands of lives and establishing a legacy that will remain in full force for generations to come; NOW, THEREFORE, I C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim April 27, 2007 to be A L F R E D O M I G U E L A F I F DAY in Idaho.
