WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal society that has been called “the strong right arm of the Church” and has been praised by popes, presidents and other world leaders for its support of the Church, programs of evangelism and Catholic education, civic involvement and aid to those in need, regardless of faith; and WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus provides financial and mutual aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families as well as to the public at large; and WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members, their families and the community at large through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief, disaster relief and public relief works; and WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council in 1882 to more than 1.71 million members in over 14,000 councils throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam, Saipan and Poland; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Knights of Columbus in 2005 provided $215,990 in charitable donations and 121,370 volunteer hours to the Church, Communities and individuals in need, as well as over 750 blood donors; and WHEREAS, the Idaho State Council of the Knights of Columbus is meeting for its 100th Idaho State convention from April 20th through April 22nd, 2007, in Nampa; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the Idaho Knights of Columbus and its members and families for their many contributions to our state and its citizens; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH OTTER” , Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim April 16 through April 22, 2007 to be KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS WEEK in Idaho.
