WHEREAS, on August 7, 2007, Idaho educator and astronaut Barbara Morgan will be launched into space in Space Shuttle Endeavor as the first Teacher in Space with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration team on its 119th space shuttle voyage; and WHEREAS, Idaho is at the forefront in helping advance and support space exploration and awareness; and WHEREAS, the State of Idaho, through the Idaho National Laboratory, continues to play a critical role in space exploration missions for NASA; and WHEREAS, eighteen students from the State of Idaho will gather to talk with Idaho’s astronaut and educator Barbara Morgan and the NASA crew of STS118 aboard the International Space Station; and WHEREAS, NASA, Discovery Center of Idaho, Idaho Office of Science and Technology, Idaho Department of Education, Idaho Science Teachers Association, Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Space Grant Consortium, and Idaho’s Congressional Delegation have all worked together to create this and other opportunities for Idaho students; NOW, THEREFORE I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim August 2007 as IDAHO REACHES INTO SPACE MONTH
