WHEREAS, approximately 90 percent of all Idaho high schools administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery; and WHEREAS, the ASVAB is the culmination of more than 35 years of experience and research; and WHEREAS, the ASVAB has been reviewed as psychometrically sound and is considered one of the best vocational aptitude indices in the country; and WHEREAS, the ASVAB is currently administered in more than 14,000 American high schools to more than 1 million students a year; and WHEREAS, the Armed Forces of the United States utilize the ASVAB to determine the capabilities of young people entering the military service; and WHEREAS, ASVAB results can be used with all students to increase self-understanding, to encourage career exploration, and to improve decision-making through quality career counseling services; and WHEREAS, the ASVAB is offered by the Department of Defense in schools throughout the State of Idaho at no cost to students or school districts; and WHEREAS, the 17- to 24-year-old age group traditionally has the highest unemployment rate and a greater number of students taking the battery might improve their economic situation; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the week of March 5 through 19, 2007 to be ARMED SERVICES VOCATIONAL APTITUDE BATTERY TESTING WEEK in Idaho, and I urge all high schools in the State of Idaho to encourage
students to utilize the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery testing and
counseling materials that acquaint students with a variety of career
opportunities and vocational/technical training programs.
