WHEREAS, Idaho’s cultural heritage has been rich and diverse as represented by the thousands of archaeological and historical sites, historic architecture and landscapes that have been discovered and recorded throughout our state; and WHEREAS, public appreciation and understanding is the foundation of preserving Idaho’s past for future generations; and WHEREAS, the protection and preservation of these sites, buildings and landscapes provide educational, scientific and economic benefits for all citizens; and WHEREAS it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals who preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that shapes us as Idahoans; and WHEREAS, the Idaho State Historical Society is celebrating its 100th birthday, and has joined the Idaho Heritage Trust, the Idaho Department of Transportation, Boise State University, Idaho State University, the National Park Service, the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Bureau of Land Management, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Idaho Power Company, Idaho Archaeological Society, Preservation Idaho, other government agencies, private companies, professional archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, students and private citizens to enhance public awareness of archaeology, history and preservation in Idaho; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2007, to be IDAHO ARCHAEOLOGY AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH And do call upon the people of Idaho to join their fellow citizens across the state in recognizing and participating in this special observance.
