WHEREAS, National Careers in Construction Week is an annual week designated to increase public awareness and appreciation of the construction craft professional and the entire construction workforce; and WHEREAS, during this week, employers, trade associations and schools are encouraged to conduct job fairs, panel discussions and local community events to inform students about the vast employment opportunities in construction; and WHEREAS, the construction industry is one of our nation’s largest industries; and WHEREAS, the construction industry must fill 240,000 jobs each year just to meet the growing workforce demand; and WHEREAS, we are pleased to honor the construction craft professionals and the critical role they play in the development of Idaho; and WHEREAS, the National Center for Construction Education and Research was created by the construction industry to standardize training and enhance the industry’s image by promoting the hard work and dedication of our nation’s craft professionals; and WHEREAS, the National Center for Construction Education and Research is supported by 32 national associations and their state chapters, representing more than 150,000 contractor employers; and WHEREAS, through this unprecedented partnership, the construction industry is leading the way in providing young people with career opportunities while increasing the quality of the future workforce; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim October 15-19, 2007 to be CAREERS IN CONSTRUCTION WEEK
