WHEREAS, September of each year is recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month throughout the nation; and WHEREAS, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children ages 0-14; and WHEREAS, over the past 20 years, there has been an increase in the incidence of children diagnosed with all forms of invasive cancer; and WHEREAS, nearly 5,000 children throughout the Rocky Mountain area suffer with cancer and have been, or currently are, being treated for cancer; and WHEREAS, more than 150 children are newly diagnosed with cancer each year in the Rocky Mountain area; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim September 2007 to be CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in Idaho.
