WHEREAS, the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program is dedicated to enhancing the role of the United States in space research; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Space Grant Consortium is committed to helping colleges and universities throughout Idaho build multi-disciplinary research and education programs focused on space science, space technology and aeronautics; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Space Grant Consortium promotes cooperation and the undertaking of joint projects between public and private colleges and universities, space-related industries, state and local governments and non-profit organizations; and WHEREAS, the Idaho Space Grant Consortium is providing important opportunities for young scientists and scholars to participate in the national space program, and the work of these young scientists and scholars will benefit all Americans in the quest to understand and explore space and all it has to offer; and WHEREAS, distinguished Idahoans have made important contributions to space research, including active participation in the international Cassini mission to Saturn and Titan, the New Horizons mission to Pluto, and student involvement in the NASA Robotic Lunar Exploration Program; and WHEREAS, many Idaho students contribute to the National Space Program through research internships at NASA Centers around the country; and WHEREAS, NASA's first Educator Astronaut is an Idahoan who flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavour to the International Space Station; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim April 20 through April 26, 2008 to be IDAHO SPACE WEEK
