WHEREAS, agriculture is Idaho’s leading natural resource-based industry and is a vital and critical part of the economy producing over 140 different commodities statewide; and WHEREAS, farm workers are essential to the success of that industry; and WHEREAS, 24,000 farms and ranches employ more than 30,000 farm workers; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of Idaho are proud of their agricultural background and their support of the farming industry; and WHEREAS, the agriculture industry depends on farmers and farm workers to plant, cultivate and nurture the crops to meet the demands of consumers in Idaho and the nation; and WHEREAS, we acknowledge their outstanding characteristics, commitment to family values, hard work, and perseverance; and WHEREAS, Idaho is supportive of our farm workers for their outstanding work ethic, and acknowledge what farm workers have done to promote the quality of life and economic well being of the State of Idaho; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, C. L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho do hereby proclaim the August 24, 2008 FARM WORKERS APPRECIATION DAY in Idaho.
