WHEREAS, the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S.) or Shriners has been a fraternal organization since 1872, and established its first hospital for the medical treatment of children in 1922; and, WHEREAS, the purpose of the 22 Shriners hospitals is to provide the highest quality care, to encourage the best recovery possible; to conduct research in orthopedics, burns and spinal cord injury, leading to improvements in quality of care and life; and to train medical professionals in the treatment of orthopedic disabilities, spinal cord injuries and burns; and, WHEREAS, the El Korah Shrine Center located in Boise, Idaho and its membership have been a part of this mission since 1898, regularly conducting fund raisers and public awareness to support the Shrine hospitals, and contributing to the $826 million annual budget to ensure Idaho’s children receive the best medical care at no cost to them or their families; and, WHEREAS, the El Korah Shrine Temple is a member of the Pacific Northwest Shrine Association and will host its 2008 annual summer convention in Boise, Idaho August 7-10, 2008; and, WHEREAS, Shrine Nobles from around the Pacific Northwest plan to promote the fellowship, fraternity and philanthropy of the A.A.O.N.M.S. during their stay in Boise; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the week of August 4th - 10th, 2008 as "Pacific Northwest Shrine Association Week"
