WHEREAS, Lionel Hampton, one of the world’s greatest jazz musicians, was born 100 years ago; and WHEREAS, Lionel Hampton has been honored in Idaho with the naming of both the Lionel Hampton School of Music and the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho; and WHEREAS, this is the 41st year of the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival; and WHEREAS, more that 13,000 students, musicians and jazz fans will attend the festival this year and participate in tributes commemorating the 100th anniversary of Lionel Hampton’s birth; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim February 18th through 24th, 2008 to be LIONEL HAMPTON’S 100TH BIRTHDAY WEEK in Idaho.
