WHEREAS, community corrections professionals in Idaho supervise more than 12,000 offenders on adult felony supervision and more than 13,000 on misdemeanor supervision; and, WHEREAS, community corrections professionals serve crime victims and hold offenders accountable for the wrong they have committed to our families, friends and communities; and, WHEREAS, community corrections professionals increase public safety by providing opportunities for offenders to change and, as a result, make our communities a safer place for everyone; and, WHEREAS, community corrections professionals constantly acquire knowledge of what motivates offenders and apply that knowledge in the most effective way possible; and, WHEREAS, probation and parole officers face real dangers in their jobs and often are asked to risk their own safety to make sure others are kept safe from crime; and, WHEREAS, the State of Idaho is proud to join with other states across the country in celebrating Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week and in urging all citizens to recognize these men and women who serve so faithfully; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim the week of July 13th through July 19th, 2008 to be COMMUNITY CORRECTIONAL PROFESSIONALS WEEK in Idaho.
