        WHEREAS, there are more than 126,785 Idahoans of Hispanic descent, whose presence gives this state a culture uniquely rich in the diversity of its people, their traditions and history, and contributions to the state of Idaho; and

        WHEREAS, Idaho will continue to be enriched by strengthening and expanding our social, cultural and economic status; and

        WHEREAS, the Governor’s focus is to improve the socio-economic and educational status of Idaho’s Hispanic population with the most effective and efficient use of existing resources; and

        WHEREAS, Idaho’s Hispanic population continues its proud traditions by its commitment to youth, family values, hard work and progress; and

        WHEREAS, Idaho’s people share the vision of uniting our communities by celebrating the diverse cultures of all our citizens, and it is appropriate that we honor our fellow citizens during this traditional occasion and recognize their contributions to our society; and

        WHEREAS, Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority in this country and in the state of Idaho, and September is recognized nationally as Hispanic Heritage month;

        NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim September 15-October 15, 2008, to be

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

in Idaho.
