WHEREAS, eastern Idaho will be hosting a three-day visit by members of the National Federation of Press Women September 11-13, 2008; and WHEREAS, the National Federation of Press Women is a dynamic nationwide organization of professional women – and men – whose careers span the communications spectrum; and WHEREAS, the National Federation of Press Women is well-known for its efforts to support literacy and women’s issues and for vigorously engaging in advocacy for First Amendment and freedom of information issues; and WHEREAS, one of the State of Idaho’s great communicators, Louise Shadduck, served two years as president of the National Federation of Press Women, was to have been honorary chairman of this year’s event, and was a beloved and key member of Media Network Idaho until her passing earlier this year; and WHEREAS, the State of Idaho and its citizens have a special interest in seeing a continued commitment to the highest ethical standards in communications; NOW, THEREFORE, I C. L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim September 11-13, 2008, to be National Federation of Press Women Days in Idaho, and I urge all Idaho citizens to welcome these communicators from
all over the United States and to remember the importance of the First Amendment
and freedom of information.
