WHEREAS, professional engineers have made significant contributions to Idaho throughout its history and are responsible through their creativity for technological achievements that have improved the quality of our lives and helped us compete in an increasingly technological world; and WHEREAS, there are some 7,083 licensed professional engineers practicing in Idaho, who hold major responsibilities for the benefit and protection of Idaho citizens in the areas of public safety, health, welfare, the environment, transportation, structures, water, power, and communications, as well as mechanical, electrical and electronic devices important to everyday life; and WHEREAS, there are hundreds of students enrolled in colleges of engineering located on the campuses of Idaho's three major universities, whose graduates have gone on to contribute to the economic health of our state and nation; and WHEREAS, engineers contribute to the education of our young people, especially in the fields of mathematics and science, to meet even greater challenges in the future; NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH”OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim February 15th through 21st, 2009, to be IDAHO ENGINEERS WEEK in Idaho.
