GOVERNOR OTTER, FIRST LADY TO HOST STATE CAPITOL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and First Lady Lori Otter invite everyone to join them on the evening of Monday, November 27th for a celebration of the holiday season at the ceremonial lighting of Idaho’s Capitol Christmas Tree.

“The essence of family and community is gathering together to express gratitude for our blessings and hopes for overcoming our challenges. Those expressions are even more meaningful during the holidays,” Governor Otter said. “Miss Lori and I are thankful for our Idaho family, and for the community of friends with whom we can share moments of joy and make lasting Christmastime memories for young and old.”

Brenda and Kevin Mee from Boise radio station 101.9 FM “The Bull” will serve as masters of ceremonies for the evening on the front steps of the Capitol. The 25th Army Band will begin entertaining at 5 p.m. while guests enjoy complimentary hot chocolate provided by Lucky Perk and Meadow Gold, hot cider from Albertsons, and cookies from the Walmart Bakery.

The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Governor, First Lady and Idaho’s constitutional officers, as well as music by Opera Idaho and the Andrus Ambassador Honor Choir from Meridian’s Cecil D. Andrus Elementary School, accompanied by keyboards from Dunkley Music.

Guests are invited into the Capitol after the Christmas tree is lit. Music will continue and free books will be given to children, compliments of the First Lady and Scholastic, Inc. Guests also are encouraged to visit the Governor’s Ceremonial Office and the Capitol Gift Shop, where Idaho’s 2017 State Christmas ornament will be available, along with other items crafted by Idaho artists.
