GOVERNOR APPOINTS EHARDT TO DISTRICT 33 SEAT IN IDAHO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch”Otter announced the appointment today of Idaho Falls City Council member Barbara Ehardt to complete Janet Trujillo’s unexpired term in the Idaho House of Representatives.

Trujillo recently resigned from her third term representing Idaho Falls in the House after Governor Otter appointed her to a vacancy on the Idaho State Tax Commission. Ehardt, who lost a December 5 runoff election for Idaho Falls mayor to incumbent Rebecca Casper, was among three candidates submitted by the District 33 Republican Legislative Committee to complete the House term that runs until December 2018. The other two nominees were father-and-son attorneys Mark and Paul Fuller.

“I am indeed humbled to receive this appointment from Governor Otter,” Ehardt said. “It has been my great honor to serve the people of Idaho Falls these past four years and now it will be my honor to serve the great people of Idaho in this upcoming legislative session. Truly I am humbled by this opportunity.”

Ehardt has been on the Idaho Falls City Council for four years. Her term ends January 11, and the 2018 session of the Idaho Legislature convenes in Boise on Monday, January 8. The former college basketball player and coach is manager of youth programming at Apple Athletic Club in Idaho Falls, owns Coach E’s Camps & Clinics, and is a motivational speaker. Ehardt also has served as president of the Bonneville County Republican Women, and in various roles with the Bonneville County Republican Central Committee.

The Idaho Falls native attended North Idaho College and Idaho State University on basketball scholarships before a 15-year coaching career that culminated in serving as head women’s basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton. Ehardt returned to live in Idaho Falls in 2003.
