DR. DAVID HILL REAPPOINTED TO FULL TERM ON STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced the reappointment today of Dr. David Hill of Boise to a full five-year term on the Idaho State Board of Education. Hill has served on the Board since July 2014, when he was named to fill a vacancy left by the mid-term resignation of Milford Terrell.

Hill retired as executive vice president of the Battelle Energy Alliance and deputy director for science and technology at the Idaho National Laboratory. He recently was elected secretary of the eight-member Board of Education and is a member of the Governor’s Higher Education Task Force. In addition, Hill is chairman of the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) Council, chairman of the STEM Action Center board of directors, and co-chair of the Governor’s Workforce Development Task Force.

“Dave brings a passion for education at all levels and a commitment to excellence in everything he does,” Governor Otter said. “His leadership and perspective have been invaluable to implementing our five-year plan for improving public schools, and I appreciate him applying his experience and expertise to addressing our higher education and workforce education and training challenges.”

Hill has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a doctorate in mathematical physics from Imperial College, London University, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. He and his wife Georgia Meacham have five children.

“I’ve learned a lot in the past three years about education governance, building consensus on difficult issues, and engaging constructively with education stakeholders from students and businesses to teachers, administrators and policy makers,” Hill said. “It’s an exciting time for everyone involved in Idaho’s K-through-Career education system. I’m optimistic about the improvements we’re making and look forward to continuing to achieve meaningful results.”
