BRENT MENDENHALL APPOINTED TO FILL MADISON COUNTY COMMISSION VACANCY

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch”Otter announced the appointment today of Brent Mendenhall of Rexburg to fill the Madison County Commission vacancy left by the recent resignation of Commissioner Kimber Ricks.

Mendenhall, 64, was among three men nominated to Governor Otter by the Madison County Republican Central Committee for consideration as Ricks’ successor. He will be on the May 15 primary election ballot seeking to remain on the Commission beyond the end of Ricks’ term.

“Commissioner Ricks is a great friend and was an outstanding community leader for Madison County. I’m confident that his example will help inspire Commissioner Mendenhall to continue that kind of exemplary public service going forward,” the Governor said. “I’m pleased to be able to appoint a candidate as qualified and capable as Brent.”

The Preston native has an associate’s degree from what now is Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg – then Ricks College – and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. Mendenhall has been a management consultant since retiring from a 36-year career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency in 2014. He also was vice president and director of program development for Bridge Communications in Twin Falls for nine years, and a Madison School District trustee for 12 years.

“What a marvelous opportunity the Governor has provided me with this appointment,” Mendenhall said. “I am anxious to serve in this county I have called home for over 35 years. I look forward to working with Commissioner Weber and Commissioner Smith. Together we will address and administer the issues and concerns of a growing county.”

Mendenhall and his wife Suzan have five grown children.
