Governor Little selects Tom Harris to lead Tax Commission

Wednesday May 1, 2019

Boise, Idaho – Governor Brad Little appointed Tom Harris of Eagle to serve as the new chairman of the Idaho State Tax Commission.

Harris retired in 2018 as president of Western States Equipment after 45 years with the company. He led the 850-employee multi-state company in its support and distribution of Caterpillar and related products.

Harris will lead three other governor-appointed tax commissioners in the management of the agency. The Tax Commission’s duties include informing taxpayers about tax obligations and enforcing Idaho's laws to ensure fairness.

“Tom is a businessman and strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, and I am confident he will lead the Tax Commission with an eye for efficiency and customer service,” Governor Brad Little said. “I am grateful for Tom’s willingness to serve the people of Idaho in his new role.”

Harris’ term starts on May 8 and expires in 2025. He succeeds outgoing chairman, Ken Roberts.

“I join many others in expressing my appreciation to Ken Roberts for his contributions to the State of Idaho in his role at the Tax Commission for nearly seven years,” Governor Little added.
